New Service Patterns

New Service patterns at All Saints and St Andrew’s

Thank you to everyone who has fed back on our service pattern discussions in recent months. It has been a really helpful process as we have prayed and discussed together the way God is leading us forward and how to overcome the issue of no longer being able to offer regular communion by extension.

After much prayer and discussion, the PCC has now made a decision on a pattern to trial for 6 months from September, which I hope will both support what is really good and strong at All Saints and the current needs, and also allow us to take some gentle steps forward to seek to reach out to those currently on the fringes of our community.

8:45/traditional services

What has come through clearly from the feedback is how much the traditional service is appreciated at All Saints and also how it ‘fits’ the needs for many in our community. We therefore have decided to retain a traditional service at All Saints each week, but to alternate between Holy Communion and Morning Worship.

At All Saints:

  • Holy Communion will take place on 2nd and 4th Sundays
  • Morning Worship will be on 1st and 3rd Sundays
  • Provision on the 5th Sunday will vary depending on availability of clergy.

St Andrew’s will have the opposite pattern (communion on 1st and 3rd Sundays) for their 8:45 service so that there is provision for a traditional communion service across the two churches every Sunday.

A new service trial on 3rd Sundays (from October)

From the feedback and discussions on new services, the one that we sensed we were most being led to trial was a monthly afternoon service, particularly to reach ‘fringe families’ connected with toddlers/messy church.

We are therefore going to trial a 4pm monthly afternoon service – “@4” - on the 3rd Sunday of each month from October which we hope several of our current 10:30 will want to come and be part of. This will be run by a joint team of All Saints and St Andrew’s people.

As we do not have capacity to run 3 services on a Sunday, the other service that day will be a 9:30am service which will be largely traditional in format, but designed to meet the needs of 8:45ers and 10:30 folk.

We will monitor this trial for 6 months and particularly review in the Spring.

Please do be praying for this new pattern, and let us be open to God being at work as we gently try new things.

Thank you for your continued support and service – you are an amazing community.
